By committing to backing up your data, you have taken an important first step in protecting your information assets. Corrupt data often exists long before it rears its ugly head into a system crash. You will have complete root-access to your dedicated server, so you will be able to maintain a workable backup program. As root administrator, you are responsible for the integrity of all data on the server, unless you have our RemoteHands managed services. If your server crashes, the first consideration is the restoration of your data, and the only way you can ensure data integrity with absolute certainty, is to schedule and perform backups to store the data onto a separate medium other than the main drives within the server(s). Tape back up gives you the added benefit that the medium are stored away from the data centre floor in a fireproof safe, significantly decreasing the likelihood of total data loss. By using a single tape, you could be backing up corrupt data and have no chance of finding the clean file or files you have backed up. Having multiple copies on a single media is not acceptable either. In order to protect yourself, you must have multiple copies in multiple places to be assured of retrieving your data in the event of a disaster. To this end, we offer multiple tape rotation options, whereby our technicians rotate the tape media on a regularly scheduled basis.
